Positive results expected from Road Safety Month in State

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) organised the Uttarakhand Road Safety and Green Youth Festival 2026 to mark the national road safety month with officials expressing confidence that the efforts aimed at awareness will yield positive results.
Additional transport commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh was the chief guest and deputy transport commissioner Shailesh Tiwari and Sunil Sharma others were also present at the event. Singh emphasised that this programme is not just an event but a positive initiative towards responsible citizenship that leads to safer roads and a cleaner environment. He pointed out that if everyone follows the rules, accidents can be significantly reduced.
Regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) Anita Chamola said that under the road safety month 2026, the department organised various activities and events to raise awareness on road safety. This initiative focuses on four key areas- education, road engineering, emergency care and enforcement. Activities included a fashion show ramp walk related to road safety, musical performances, stand-up comedy, skit and many other events. Additionally, stalls were set up at the event, including one from a private hospital that provided first aid and CPR training, along with other attractions. The jury also awarded the best stall. Apart from this,
Officials claimed that about 3,000 students from various universities and schools participated in the event, including students from various private universities and other institutions in Dehradun. Chamola stated that the main objective of the programme was to sensitise youth about road safety and environmental protection. The emphasis was on conveying the message that adhering to regulations is essential for preventing accidents and controlling pollution.
“The Transport department’s job is not only to issue challans but also to promote awareness and prevention. We enforce rules because we value people’s lives,” she said. She further emphasised the importance of organising and raising awareness among residents about road safety. In light of this, they are planning to soon organise a large-scale marathon in Dehradun on road safety.
