Pothole causes woman’s death in road accident

A rider losing balance while negotiating a pothole caused the pillion rider to fall on the road after which she was hit by a truck causing fatal injuries. The 28-year-old woman died at Shimla Bypass Chowk here on Saturday morning. The accident took place at about 7:30 AM when the woman was riding pillion on her husband’s motorcycle. The police seized the truck after the mishap.
The woman was identified as Badowala resident Durga Devi. According to the police, the motorcycle hit a pothole on the road and went out of control, causing her to fall off the bike onto the road. A truck coming from behind hit her causing serious injury.
Local people and passers-by informed the police and 108 ambulance service. However, locals alleged that the ambulance did not reach the spot for nearly two hours despite repeated calls. During this time, the woman reportedly lost a large quantity of blood. The injured woman was later taken to the district hospital where doctors declared her dead. The incident led to anger among local residents who protested against the alleged delay in the ambulance service and raised slogans against the administration.
The police said that further investigation and legal action are underway.
