PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Doctors in Dehradun have reported an increase in skin infections, particularly fungal infections, as well as cases of loose motion and dehydration among residents due to the current rise in temperature and high humidity levels. Medical professionals noted that such health issues typically increase during this time. They have advised residents to take necessary precautions to prevent these problems.

Senior physician at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital, Dr Praveen Panwar stated that the ongoing rise in temperature along with high humidity has led to an increase in cases of loose motion and dehydration in the outpatient department (OPD). He said that about 25 per cent of patients in the OPD are experiencing these issues. To prevent these conditions, he advised people to avoid eating stale food, consuming oily and spicy dishes and eating out. He also highlighted that with the upcoming monsoon season, there is a risk of typhoid and jaundice outbreaks. Residents should remain vigilant and follow necessary precautions, including drinking clean water, he said.

Dermatologist at Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital, Dr Anil Arya added, “The ongoing weather condition, combined with humidity, has led to an increase in fungal infections among residents. Compared to normal days, these cases have risen by 10 to 15 per cent in the OPD. Patients commonly suffer from red marks, itching, irritation and other symptoms. To avoid these issues, it is essential to maintain cleanliness, avoid wearing wet clothing and consult a skin specialist instead of self-medicating or seeking advice from a chemist.”

He also emphasised that the diabetic patients are more vulnerable during this period and should adhere to necessary precautions and stay attentive to their health.
