Led by the SSP Dehradun, Pramendra Singh Dobal, Doon police conducted a surprise checking drive in PG and hostels located in Premnagar area on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday and took at least four youths to the Premnagar police station for questioning.  Police stated that such drives have been going on at full throttle in the Premnagar area under Operation Prahar to curb youth-linked crimes which recur here at regular intervals, adding that they had collected detailed information about the students living there from their operators.   Besides, the educational institutions spread across the area have been directed to conduct 100 per cent police verification of all their students.

“We further instructed the hostel and PG operators to compulsorily install CCTV cameras in their premises, control the entry of students after 10 PM, allow entry to outsiders only after verification and keep complete records of the people coming and going,” the SSP said, adding that it was the responsibility of the operators to closely monitor the movements of the inmates of their establishments.

The police warned that if any student is found involved in criminal activity or a complaint is received regarding drug abuse, stern legal action would be taken  not just  against the students concerned but also against the operators of the establishments they live in as per the rules.

During the inspection, irregularities were found in four hostels and notices were issued to the respective operators, who were instructed to take corrective measures within a stipulated time-frame.

At the same time, four suspicious youths, found roaming about in the late night hours, were detained for questioning.
