Following the objections raised by the opposition Congress on the process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls currently underway in Uttarakhand, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has deputed nine administrative services (IAS/PCS) officers as special observers to monitor the process of disposal of claims and objections under SIR in the State. On the instructions of the ECI, the chief electoral officer (CEO), Uttarakhand, BVRC Purushottam issued the order to these officers on Friday.
The commission has deputed Sandeep Tiwari, Lalit Narayan Mishra, Nand Kumar and Gopal Ram Binwal as special observers in Haridwar district. Similarly, this responsibility has been assigned to Sanjay Kumar and Vineet Tomar for Nainital district. The commission has deployed Prakash Chandra Dumka, Jai Kishan and Divesh Shashani as special observers to monitor the process in Udham Singh Nagar district.
Pertinently, maximum number of objections have been received by the commission in the districts of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital. The CEO said that these special observers will oversee the process of processing claims and objections related to the voter list in the respective assembly constituencies, including the distribution, service and hearing of notices. They will also monitor the quality of the processing process, ensuring compliance with the rules and procedures of the ECI. These officers will be required to submit reports of their daily inspections to the office of the CEO through the Divisional Commissioner concerned twice a week.
As per the order of the CEO, the special observers will remain under the control, supervision and discipline of the Commission for the prescribed revision period.
Congress delegation meets CEO U’khand
DEHRADUN: A delegation of Congress party led by head of the SIR committee Manoj Rawat met the chief electoral officer (CEO) Uttarakhand BVRC Purushottam at his office on Friday. The delegation informed the CEO the concerns of the Congress party in the process of objections in SIR work in the State and submitted a memorandum. The CEO assured the Congress leaders that the process of the SIR is underway in the State as per the norms. He said that in order to make the process more transparent, nine senior officers of the State administration have been appointed as special observers in the districts where a large number of objections have been received. Purushottam added that the Garhwal and Kumaon commissioners have been entrusted with the task of roll observers to monitor the entire process of SIR in their respective divisions.
