Teerth Purohit Mahapanchayat condemns SP leader’s statement on Badrinath
The Teerth Purohits of Gangotri and Yamunotri along with the locals will stage a protest demonstration on Monday against the statement made by Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya regarding Badrinath. Protests will be held at all the Char Dhams in the State to protest against the SP leader. Maurya had recently stated that earlier a Buddhist shrine. The Char Dham Teerth Purohit Mahapanchayat office bearers will also be submitting a memorandum on this issue to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Issuing a statement in the media on Sunday, the Mahapanchayat president Suresh Semwal said that the SP general secretary Maurya had recently stated that Badrinath was a Buddhist shrine before the 8th century. Apart from this he has been consistently making questionable statements on the Badrinath Dham in the media and social media. The Mahapanchayat head further said that effigies of Maurya will be set on fire in Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri as a mark of protest.
It will be recalled that Maurya’s statement has elicited strong criticism from the Jyotish Peeth Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat.
