Public awareness campaign on e-waste held in SRHU

The National Mission of Himalayan Studies (NMHS) and Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), Dehradun in technical collaboration with Department of Biosciences, Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) jointly organised two-day workshop on public awareness campaign of e-waste management in Dehradun.

Speaking at the inauguration, UCOST director general  Rajendra Dhobhal emphasised on sensitising the people about managing and disposing of the e-waste scientifically. He said that there is need to formulate and implement the e-waste minimisation, replacement, long term use, reuse and refurbishment and also check misuse of facilities of e-items. He stressed on extracting precious metals from different types of e-wastes like old mobiles, non working laptops/computers, unrepairable electrical and electronic items. H

SRHU vice chancellor Vijay Dhasmana shared his views on e-waste management with specific references to university policy in managing the outdated and nonworking e-equipment. SRHU scientific adviser CS Nautiyal informed the participants about the rare earth metals used in electronic equipments. The expert plenary lecture was delivered by    NA Siddiqui from UPES on e- waste management for sustainable resource conservation. The workshop was attended by more than 70 undergraduate and post graduate students from different disciplines of SRHU and other colleges and institutions.
