Public continues to suffer due to ministerial employees strike

The public continued to suffer on the second day of the indefinite strike of the Transport Ministerial Employees Union as the work in 18 transport offices and 12 transport tax collection centres in the state remained disrupted on Tuesday too.
Several services like issuance of driving licenses, vehicle permits and fitness certificates remained affected in the regional transport office (RTO) of Dehradun too due to the work boycott of employees associated with the union. According to the protesting employees, the departmental structure was reorganised in June 2020 and 30 new posts of ministerial cadre were sanctioned in an order issued at that time. However, the posts of senior administrative officers which have been approved previously were mistakenly displayed as subordinate posts in the order. They said that the ministerial employees cannot be promoted due to this mistake in the order but the state government has still not amended it in one and a half years.
According to them, the employees have appealed to the government several times since last year but nothing is being done on the matter. They said that promotions of several employees are being hindered that forced them to go on an indefinite strike against the government. The general secretary of the union, Yashveer Singh Bisht said that the work in 18 transport offices and 12 transport tax collection centres was disrupted across the state but the union will continue the protest till the order is amended by the government.
