The Union minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale has directed officials to publicise the overseas scholarship scheme in the State so that students seeking higher education abroad can gain from this scheme. He said this while chairing a meeting with senior officials here on Thursday to discuss the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jan-Dhan Yojana, Mudra Yojana, SC/OBC scholarship scheme, old age home and residential schools in the State.
He also directed that implementation of other welfare schemes implemented in other States and by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment should be considered in Uttarakhand also. Taking cognisance of the scheme in Uttarakhand related to inter-State marriage scheme, the Union minister suggested that the scheme run by Dr Ambedkar Foundation should be publicised through camps, newspapers and other media so that more eligible persons can benefit from the scheme. Attempts should also be made to compile data regarding those not covered under this scheme, he said. The minister also assured that action will be taken soon on proposals under Babu Jagjeevan Ram hostel scheme pending with the Centre. Principal secretary L Fenai, additional secretary Anand Swaroop and other officials concerned were also present in the meeting.
