Ending prolonged suspense, the Congress brass on the last day of nomination announced that Rahul Gandhi would contest from Rae Barely while Sonia Gandhi’s close confidante Kishori Lal Sharma would try his electoral luck from Amethi constituency. This announcement also pulled the curtains down on the speculation of Priyanka Gandhi contesting from any one of the two seats, Amethi and Rae Barely, deemed as Gandhi Nehru family’s traditional pocket boroughs.
Notably, while Sonia Gandhi won from Raw Barely with a comfortable margin in 2019 Lok Sabha election Rahul Gandhi was trounced in Amethi by BJP’s Smriti Irani in the same hustings.
