The festival of Rakshabandhan, symbolising the bond between sisters and brothers, was observed with religious rituals and enthusiasm across the State on Monday. Additionally, there was a noticeable increase in the number of visitors to the sweet shops in Dehradun. Priest Krishna Jaguri said that this year, the auspicious timing for tying Rakhi was from 1:30 PM to 7 PM. He explained that traditionally, the period of Bhadra, is considered inauspicious for brothers, which began on the morning of Monday this year, during which sisters were advised not to tie Rakhis. Thus, this year, sisters in the city tied Rakhis on Monday afternoon to avoid this inauspicious period. He stressed the importance of seeking guidance from a priest rather than relying on social media for information about the festival’s traditions.
Apart from this, a large number of people were also seen at the sweet shops in the city. Regarding this, a sweetshop owner Vinod Nagpal said that the sales of sweets have been good each year during the occasion of Rakshabandhan. This year, he experienced an increase in profit by an impressive 80 per cent compared to the previous year. Nagpal said that sisters traditionally purchase sweets for their brothers as a gesture of goodwill towards them on the occasion.
