PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Ramleela Mahotsav, organised by the Shri Ramakrishna Leela Samiti Tehri since 1952, has seen a significant turnout of local residents this year. This initiative aims to revive the ancient Ramleela of old Tehri, the historical capital of Garhwal in Uttarakhand, which has been celebrated in Dehradun since the Tehri city was submerged following construction of Tehri dam. The grand Ramleela Mahotsav 2025 is currently taking place at the Shri Guru Nanak Maidan, Racecourse in Dehradun during the Navratri, from October 22 to October 3, 2025.

The president of the Samiti Abhinav Thapar informed that a grand Ramleela performance featuring ‘Laxman Shakti’ and ‘Flying Hanuman’ was staged on the ninth day on Tuesday. In this performance, Meghnad made Laxman unconscious using a LASER and Hanuman flew in with the Sanjivani. As in the traditional Ramleela, the lively dialogue between Laxman and Meghnad was presented with the same quatrains and songs.

Vice chancellor of Swami Rama Himalayan University Rajendra Dobhal, along with Ramlila Committee President Devendra Nautiyal, Manoj Rai and other members attended the programme.
