Transport department issues 707 challans, seizes 116 vehicles in Dehradun

The Transport department issued 707 challans and seized 116 vehicles during an operation against unauthorised passenger and goods transport in Dehradun. The campaign targeted two-wheeler engine-fitted unauthorised rickshaws, e-rickshaws, e-autos and other vehicles carrying goods instead of passengers.
The regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) of Dehradun division Anita Chamola said that the operation began on September 27 and teams were deployed in Dehradun, Vikasnagar and Rishikesh for road checks. They covered main routes including Niranjanpur Mandi, GMS Road, Ballupur, Haridwar Bypass-ISBT, Shimla Bypass, Raja Road, Hanuman Chowk Kanwali Road, Adat Bazaar-Saharanpur Road, Chuna Bhatta-Raipur Road, Sahastradhara Road, Rajpur Road, Haridwar Road and ISBT-Rispana route.
She stated that among the challaned vehicles, 265 were e-rickshaws, 162 e-autorickshaws and 19 modified vehicles. Authorities seized 73 e-rickshaws and e-autorickshaws and 18 modified vehicles. Besides this, 36 unauthorised modified vehicles were also dismantled on site. The teams also issued 162 challans to transport vehicle operators carrying goods instead of passengers.
The operation will continue in coming days too, the RTO added. She also appealed to vehicle owners to carry only passengers in passenger vehicles and warned against using unauthorised and poorly modified two-wheeler engine-fitted rickshaws that violate motor vehicle laws and contribute to air pollution.
