As per the latest Uttarakhand news, it is a dangerous trend for a peaceful State like Uttarakhand considered safe for women that the number of rape cases is the highest among the heinous crimes registered here. Cases related to robbery, abduction for ransom, dowry deaths were not reported from every district of Uttarakhand in 2022, but as far as rape cases are concerned they were reported and registered everywhere, in every district of the State. This has been revealed through the information provided by the police headquarters in replies to queries asked under Right to Information Act. As per the information received, 1321 heinous crimes were registered in Uttarakhand in 2022 out of which there were 872 rape cases whereas the figures for robbery, murders, abduction for ransom and dowry-related deaths were 19, 187, 3 and 70 respectively.
Among 872 rape cases reported in 2022, the maximum 247 cases were registered in Udham Singh Nagar district. Haridwar stood second in the list with 229 and Dehradun stood third with 184. On the other hand, just one rape case was registered in that year in Rudraprayag district. The figures of other districts are the following: Nainital-103, Almora-16, Pithoragarh-17, Bageshwar-10, Champawat-7, Uttarkashi-13, Tehri Garhwal-15, Chamoli-9 and Pauri Garhwal-20. One more rape case was registered by Government Railway Police (GRP).
The figure of murder cases registered in the state in 2022 stands at 187. All the 13 districts of the state have such cases registered. The maximum 49 incidents were registered in Udham Singh Nagar district followed by Haridwar (39) and Dehradun (34). Just one murder case was registered in Chamoli district in 2022. The figures of other districts are the following: Nainital-22, Almora-2, Pithoragarh-4, Bageshwar-5, Champawat-4, Uttarkashi-6, Tehri Garhwal-3, Rudraprayag-4 and Pauri Garhwal-14.
Robbery cases happened in just five of the 13 districts of the state. In total, 19 such cases were registered in 2022-Haridwar (8), Udham Singh Nagar (5), Dehradun (4) and one each in Nainital and Almora.
Three cases related abduction for ransom were registered in Uttarakhand-two in Udham Singh Nagar and one in Haridwar. Seventy cases of dowry deaths were registered in nine districts of Uttarakhand-Udham Singh Nagar (24), Haridwar (20), Nainital (9), Dehradun (8), three each in Pithoragarh and Tehri Garhwal and one each in Bageshwar, Champawat and Pauri Garhwal.
