More than 9,000 government ration dealers in Uttarakhand will now receive an additional commission of Rs 15 per quintal. The Central government has increased the commission for fair price sellers in the mountain State from Rs 180 to Rs 195 per quintal, effective from April 1, 2026. The Ministry of Food and Civil Supplies has issued an order to the State government regarding this change.
Under the new system, dealers will also receive an extra margin of Rs 11 per quintal for distributing food grains through point-of-sale (POS) machines. The Central government will finance 75 per cent of the margin expenditure, while the State government will cover the remaining 25 per cent.
Food and Civil Supply minister Rekha Arya stated that the increase in commission will strengthen the financial position of ration dealers. This improvement will enhance the efficiency and timeliness of food distribution, especially in mountainous and remote areas. Under the public distribution system in the State, rations are provided monthly to approximately 1.83 lakh Antyodaya families and over 10 lakh families under the National Food Security Scheme (NFS). More than 1.27 lakh quintals of wheat and over 2.07 lakh quintals of rice are distributed to them each month through fair price shops.
