Red alert- extremely heavy rain likely in three districts today

With heavy rains causing disruption and damage across the State, Friday is likely to witness more of the same. The State meteorological centre has issued a red alert (warning) regarding the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and very intense to extremely intense spells likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri districts on Friday. The meteorological centre has also issued an orange warning (alert) regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and intense to very intense spells likely to occur at isolated places in Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Champawat districts of the State today. The centre has further issued a yellow warning (watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and intense/very intense spells likely to occur at isolated places in remaining districts of the State today. Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Almora and Bageshwar districts. In addition to this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at many places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts and at most places in the remaining districts of the State today.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to experience partly to generally cloudy sky. Heavy to very heavy rain/thundershowers are likely to occur in some parts. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 30 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today. On Thursday, there was 74.5 millimetres rain in Haldwani, 56.5 millimetres in Nainidanda, 28 millimetres in Pandukeshwar and 22 millimetres in Syunsi. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Thursday were 29.6 degrees Celsius and 24.7 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 33.5 degrees Celsius and 23.9 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 20.5 degrees Celsius and 15.6 degrees Celsius and 23.8 degrees Celsius and 18.5 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
