Registration must for all marriages solemnised after March 26, 2010 in U’khand

As per the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) implemented in the State on Monday, all the marriages solemnised between March 26, 2010, and the date of implementation of the code, must be registered within the next six months.  All the marriages in the State after the date of implementation of the code (February 27) must be registered within 60 days from the date of marriage.

Similarly the sub divisional magistrate concerned will be the registrars for ensuring implementation of UCC in the rural areas while in urban areas, the municipal commissioners will be UCC registrars in the municipal corporations.  The SDM concerned will be the registrar for UCC in the Nagar Panchayats and municipal councils. 

For the people residing in the cantonments, the chief executive officer concerned will be the registrar. The State will have a registrar general, who will be a secretary level officer. 

The chairperson of the UCC regulation committee, Shatrughna Singh said that if the registrar fails to take action within the stipulated time, the matter will be automatically forwarded to the registrar general. Similarly, an appeal can be made to the registrar general against the order of the registrar or sub-registrar, who will dispose of the appeal and issue an order within 60 days. 

As per the new code all live-in relationships entered into before February 27, 2024 will have to be registered within one month whereas all the live-in relationships established after the implementation of the code will have to be registered within one month from the date of entry into the live-in relationship.  The UCC has a provision that one or both the partners can terminate the live-in relationship through online or offline mode.
