DM orders installation of CCTV near toll barriers and identification of accident-prone sites

The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal directed officials to ensure proper installation of CCTV cameras, dividers, yellow markings, speed display boards and speed breakers near all toll barriers. He also ordered the identification of accident-prone locations on Rajpur Road, Chakrata Road, Haridwar Road and Saharanpur Road, to expedite necessary improvements. A meeting of the Road Safety Committee was chaired by Bansal in the presence of Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh on Friday. The committee decided that identified poles, transformers and four liquor shops obstructing traffic or posing safety risks will be removed. A penalty was imposed on the companies concerned for faulty cameras. The National Highways Authority of India was instructed to install high-mast lights at Asharodi by April 25. The DM directed Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) to shift electricity poles from 22 locations where they pose an accident risk. He directed the police and Transport department to act consistently against overspeeding. The committee also approved Rs 40 lakh from the district plan for the improvement of the Mussoorie-Kimadi motor road and Rs 10 lakh for shifting electricity poles, free left-turn implementation, police booth relocation, service lane construction, slipway development and divider redesigning. The DM instructed to ensure proper installation of CCTV cameras, dividers, yellow markings, speed display boards, and speed breakers before toll barriers. He directed officials to take similar measures on Chakrata Road, near FRI, Premnagar and Panditwadi to enhance road safety. Bansal stated that there is no shortage of funds for road safety and delays in execution will not be tolerated.
