Resenting rising prices, Cong holds state-wide protests
On the issues of price rise and plight of farmers, the Uttarakhand Congress held vehement protests in the state capital and all the district headquarters of the state on Saturday. The party also held foot marches ( Padh Yatra) on the day. In Dehradun, the Congress leaders and workers assembled at the Congress headquarters in large numbers.
Addressing the party workers, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh termed the hike in petrol, diesel and petroleum products affected by the Narendra Modi government in the last seven years of its rule as one of the biggest loots of public money. He claimed that the union government and state government are looting four lakh Crore of rupees every year from petrol and diesel. Singh said that the cooking gas has become three times more costly in the present regime as compared with the prices during the UPA government. Reminding the BJP of its pre poll slogan of ‘ Bahut Hui Mahengai Ki Maar...’, the PCC president said that the party has conveniently forgotten all its promises and the general public is reeling under the ever increasing prices. He claimed that the people are fed up with the government and have made up their mind for a change. The PCC president said that the Congress party is standing firmly behind the farmers in their demand for repeal of three draconian farm laws.
The leader of opposition (LoP) in the state assembly, Indira Hridayesh said that Narendra Modi is an autocratic ruler who is not concerned with the plight of the people. She said that the poor are reeling under the rising prices and the only solution now is the defeat of BJP in the elections.
After the address of the senior leaders, the workers and leaders took out a procession. The Padh Yatra started from Rajiv Bhawan and passed through Kuality Chowk, Clock Tower, Darshan Lal Chowk and returned back to Rajiv Bhawan.
Former Minister Dinesh Agarwal, Vice President Surya Kant Dhasmana, Ranjit Singh Rawat, Aryendra Sharma, general secretary organisation Vijay Saraswat, former MLAs Jot Singh, Rajkumar, Jeet Ram, spokesperson Garima Dassauni and others took part in the Padh Yatra
