Resort sealed for violations, no relief from HC

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Nainital

The Dynasty Resort at Khurpatal near Nainital was sealed by the district administration on Tuesday for violation of pollution control norms. Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board official Anurag Negi informed that samples collected during an inspection of the resort in December 2024 was found to be below standards.

During another inspection carried out in May 2025, the sewage treatment plant was not found to be functioning properly. The report was sent to the head office after which a closure order was issued on April 28 this year. Negi further informed that UPCL has disconnected power to the resort and a written undertaking was taken from the parties involved that no commercial activity will be conducted on premises.

However, permission may be granted to families staying on premises. He said that a recent inspection found about half a dozen rooms being used, which the party concerned assured would be vacated with the occupants having been shifted since then. The district administration has locked the main gate to prevent any commercial activity from being conducted. Earlier, the property owner Sachin Gupta questioned the action stating that all necessary compliance would have been ensured if prior information had been provided. He alleged that a 48-hour notice was served to stop all commercial activity, adding that locking the entire property is not fair when commercial activities have been stopped.

The property owner had also approached the Uttarakhand High Court seeking a stay on the administration’s action. Granting no relief in the matter, the HC questioned why the pollution control board summon had not been acted upon.
