The Haridwar-Roorkee Development Authority (HRDA) is working on a beautification campaign to modernise and beautify Haridwar city.
HRDA vice chairperson Sonika informed that work is being undertaken to develop major intersections and public spaces in the city. Most of the city’s prominent crossroads have been identified where beautification will be carried out without affecting any existing statue or religious structure. Plantation, lighting and decorations will be carried out where required.
The authority has selected Rishikul Chowk, Shankaracharya Chowk and Devpura Chowk as pilot projects. Modern design, greenery and lighting will be incorporated at these sites to lend a new look to the city. HRDA secretary Manish Singh informed that large scale façade works will also be executed in the city as part of the development works for the coming Ardh Kumbh.
Uniform beautification of the outer portions of buildings and special lighting will be part of this work which is expected to make the city more attractive during the night. Further, work is also underway on the Unity Mall project with about 50 per cent of the work having been completed. The authority expects the project to reach its final stage by December this year.
