In latest news from Uttarakhand, the old row over the gold-plating of the sanctum sanctorum of the revered Kedarnath shrine returned with an ascetic raising accusing fingers at the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC). Taking a strong note of the accusation, BKTC said they were contemplating the legal option. They also directed the ascetic to come out with credible evidence in support of his accusation. Defending themselves, the committee members said that they had executed the gold- plating project with the donations of a devotee in full adherence to the existing provisions governing the functioning of BKTC after taking official clearance from the administration.
They further said that the work had been done under the supervision of the Indian archeological department, adding that the same gold-plating work had been done in Badrinath shrine at the initiative of the same donor in 2005.
