The Rishikesh-Chamba national highway leading to Gangotri was reopened for light traffic on Thursday after being blocked for two days due to heavy debris at Bagaddhar. The locals had started facing problems due to the highway being closed for two days.
The highway was blocked for two days due to boulders and other debris at Bagaddhar and other sites. Continuing rain was resulting in fresh debris repeatedly landing on the road which caused problems to the authorities working to clear the road to restore the flow of traffic.Heavy rain on Monday had washed out 40-metre stretch of the highway at Bhinnu in addition to debris blocking the highway at Naganni, Amsera, Bagaddhar and other sites.
The Border Roads Organisation restored traffic on the highway on Thursday with light vehicles being allowed to pass.
