The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has issued tenders worth Rs five lakh for each ward to repair damaged roads. Road repair work in all 100 wards will begin by this weekend, the executive engineer of the corporation Rachna Payal said.
Councillors had been demanding the start of construction work for several weeks and the corporation has now given approval. She informed that tenders worth Rs five crore have been issued for filling potholes and carrying out patchwork in internal areas of the city.
The corporation has directed contractors to begin work within three days, she said. Several councillors raised the issue of deteriorating roads in their wards about a month ago during the board meeting.
Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal had directed the construction section to begin the repair process but it was delayed due to continuous rainfall. Since the weather has now returned to normal and the tender process has been completed too, the construction section has started preparing for ground work, Payal said. She informed that damaged roads have been listed ward-wise and contractors will start work within three days. The work will be prioritised based on road conditions and will include road repair, interlocking tiles, drainage and retaining wall maintenance. Ward-level works under the councillor quota will also begin soon, she added.
