Relief and reconstruction work is progressing in Maldevta, Sauda Sarauli and other rain affected areas of Dehradun under the supervision of Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Chauhan, officials said. Heavy rainfall on Tuesday damaged several roads, safety walls and other structures in the Raipur Assembly area. After inspecting the affected places, Chauhan directed the departments concerned to speed up restoration work.

Additional district magistrate KK Mishra said that most of the important work has now been completed, making travel in the affected areas safe and smooth again.  Construction of safety walls in Sauda Sarauli is nearing completion, while officials are regularly checking protective nets and other safety measures at vulnerable locations. The Kalinga canal in Maldevta, which was damaged after the Song river overflowed, has also been repaired by the Irrigation department. The administration is also carrying out river channelisation work with machinery to reduce the risk of further damage during the monsoon. Mishra said that damaged roads and safety walls have been repaired by PMGSY and the Public Works Department. The district administration has directed all departments to keep a close watch on vulnerable areas and ensure quick action whenever needed to protect public safety during the monsoon.
