Two juveniles have been apprehended by Kotwali Nagar police for allegedly committing thefts in locked houses in Dehradun, on Thursday.
The case came to light after Khurbura resident Vinod Rai lodged a complaint on August 4 that cash and valuables had been stolen from his locked house. Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobal said based on his complaint, police registered a case and formed a special team to investigate the incident. During checking of CCTV camera footage police suspected two persons. “During the checking drive, police stopped two juveniles near Gauri Shankar Temple in Khurbura and recovered Rs 34,640 in cash along with several gold and silver ornaments believed to have been stolen,” Dobal said.
During questioning, the juveniles admitted that they first identified locked houses during the day and later returned at night to break the locks with iron rods before stealing cash and jewellery. They said they targeted houses where no one was present. Both juveniles were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and later sent to the juvenile correction home.
