Robbery accused injured in encounter with police

In latest news from Uttarakhand, a criminal was injured in leg as a joint team of Haridwar police and special operation group (SOG) opened retaliatory firing during an encounter in Kankhal. Haridwar police sources said that the injured was a member of a gang involved in a number of robberies in Kankhal area. Senior police officers reached the spot on receiving the news and had the injured criminal admitted at a hospital. Police have launched combing operation to nab the gang members who are at large.
Sharing more details, the Haridwar SSP Pramendra Doval said that the latest robbery committed by the gang happened three days ago. To capture them, a joint team was constituted and deployed. On finding a suspicious-looking person, police gestured him to stop, but he whipped out a firearm and fired shots at the police. Police opened fire in retaliation and a bullet hit him in his leg. Identified as Mohit, resident of Laksar, he has revealed the names of other members of the criminal gang, Doval said.
