Rs 15 crore subsidy given by UPCL on bills of 5 lakh consumers

Following the announcement of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on reducing the electricity bill of poor consumers by half, the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has so far disbursed a subsidy of Rs 15 crore to more than five lakh consumers in the State.
On the occasion of his birthday in September this year, the CM had said that the State government will give 50 per cent subsidy to the consumers using less than 100 units in a month. He said that in the snow covered areas of high Himalayan mountain ranges the consumers using up to 200 units in a month will get the benefit of the subsidy. The consumers having maximum demand of one Kilowatt are eligible for the subsidy.
The managing director of UPCL, Anil Kumar said that the benefit of this subsidy is being given on the electricity consumption of consumers from September 1 this year through the billing system of UPCL. At present more than five lakh consumers have received subsidies of more than Rs 15 crore on their electricity consumption from September to November, he said.
