PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The Regional Transport Office (RTO), Dehradun Division has instructed all assistant regional transport officers (Administration/enforcement) to ensure that proper transport services operate in their respective areas during Holi. Regional transport officer (Administration) Sandeep Saini emphasised that, on March 3 and 4, 2026, a significant number of passengers will be traveling to various destinations for the festival, necessitating appropriate transportation services.
Saini noted that during festivals like Holi, the number of passengers in mountainous areas increases, raising the risk of overloading in vehicles. To address this, officials have been directed to coordinate with transport unions, taxi and maxi cab representatives and the Transport Corporation in their jurisdictions to ensure adequate transport services for passengers.
Additionally, he stressed that vehicle owners and drivers must not charge fares exceeding the prescribed rates under any circumstances. Saini said the officials are also instructed to conduct special monitoring campaigns after Holi, focusing on road safety and accident prevention. This includes checking for overloading of passenger vehicles and drivers who may have consumed alcohol, particularly on hilly roads.
Further, Saini said that they also asked ARTOs (Administration) to inspect the bus stands of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation in their areas and take necessary actions in coordination with the assistant general manager.
