PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) Dehradun Division seized 17 vehicles for illegally booking private vehicles through Rapido, Ola and Uber in Dehradun city. This action was taken during a checking campaign conducted by the regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) for the Dehradun Division, Anita Chamola, from April 5 to 7.

Chamola stated that only commercial vehicles (with yellow number plates) are permitted to be registered on these apps by the aggregators. However, there have been complaints about the registration of private vehicles for this purpose, along with reports of unregistered vehicles and the operation of private vehicles for hire through the Rapido, Ola, Uber and other apps. As a result, the investigation was initiated. The checking campaign involved four teams that inspected various roads in Dehradun city, including Rajpur-Mussoorie Road, Canal Road, Sahastradhara Road, Haridwar Bypass, Saharanpur Road, Shimla Bypass Road and Chakrata Road.

She said that during the campaign, enforcement teams examined 143 two-wheelers and 43 four-wheelers. They specifically checked bookings made through the Rapido, Ola and Uber apps. Consequently, 17 vehicles were seized for booking private vehicles through these platforms. Chamola informed that a recommendation is being made to the State Transport Authority of Uttarakhand for action against the licenses of the concerned aggregators. Additionally, this campaign will be conducted regularly in the future.
