The students union election at DAV PG College in Dehradun ended amid the usual mild tension on Tuesday, with the police resorting to the use of force to control students during the counting process.

The superintendent of police (City) Shekhar Suyal said that around 200 police personnel were deployed at colleges where elections were held to maintain law and order. He said that the police had not given permission for victory rallies in Dehradun.

“No permission has been given to winning candidates to take out rallies in Dehradun. They can come only up to Karanpur Chowk,” Suyal said.

Some scuffles were reported during the counting process. The police intervened to control the situation and prevent it from escalating. The police were also deployed near Clock Tower and other parts of the city where students were expected to gather after the results.

Tension was also reported when the Dehradun police arrived to arrest Congress Pradesh Sachiv Vineet Kumar alias Banto. He was arrested after a non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against him in a six month old case.

The situation became tense as students and the police came face to face. The police used mild force to control the gathering and prevent the situation from turning violent. Several chairs were also reportedly damaged during the commotion.
