The Regional Transport Office (RTO) Dehradun division will soon conduct a more vigilant enforcement drive across Dehradun city to address violations such as wrong lane driving, unnecessary honking and improper parking, the regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) Anita Chamola said.
It is important to note that many videos circulating on social media have shown people honking unnecessarily on empty roads or tourists leaning out of sunroofs while the vehicles are in motion, which is considered unsafe. These violations of traffic rules have raised significant concerns.
While talking with The Pioneer, Chamola said that they regularly conduct enforcement drives and act against offenders. “However, taking note of these violations occurring common, we have decided to be more vigilant during the upcoming drives. Under this, vehicles—whether two-wheelers or four-wheelers—found violating traffic rules, such as unnecessary honking, using mobile phones while driving, or parking inappropriately, may have their driving licenses seized,” she said.
She stated that this drive will chiefly cover areas in Dehradun, such as Rajpur Road, Old Mussoorie Road, Cananl Road and Sahastradhara Road. “The enforcement will apply to both tourists and local residents,” she added.
Chamola also said that honking is prohibited at night. “The dipper lights should be used instead,” she said.
Sharing more, she said that their team has conducted an enforcement drive in Dehradun on Thursday afternoon and issued 18 challans, of which 15 were for two-wheelers and three for four-wheelers. “The most common violation was wrong lane driving, followed by the seizure of driving licenses as per rules,” she said.
