Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya on Thursday transferred Rs 19.23 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to 4,098 eligible girls from Haridwar and Uttarkashi districts under the Nanda Gaura Yojana (NGY). This transfer clears the pending dues for beneficiaries whose approval process was delayed earlier this year.
Arya said that as of February 26, a total of 33,251 eligible girls in the State had already benefited from the scheme. The required formalities and approval process from the district-level committee for some eligible girls in Haridwar and Uttarkashi could not be completed on time, which resulted in their initial inability to receive benefits.
Following the completion of the approval process, the assistance amount was distributed to a total of 4,098 girls at the camp office in Yamuna Colony on Thursday.
Arya emphasised that the government is committed to making sure that no eligible girl in the State is deprived of the benefits of the scheme. “NGY is as a significant initiative for the education, self-reliance and brighter future of girls,” she said.
Among those who benefited on Thursday, 417 are newborn baby girls and 3,681 girls who, on completing their XII grade, are now pursuing undergraduate studies.
Notably, from the year 2017-18 to 2025-26, about Rs 1,314 crore has been distributed to a total of 411,035 girls in the State through NGY.
