Rural income generation possible through mushroom production: CDO, Uttarkashi

The chief development officer, Uttarkashi, Jai Bharat Singh inspected the Deep Mushroom Farm located in Srikot under Chinyalisaur development block on Tuesday and inquired about the production process, marketing system and livelihood promotion activities. During the inspection, he stressed on further strengthening the mushroom centers operating under the Rural Enterprise Acceleration Project (REAP) and gave the project manager, REAP necessary guidelines for expanding livelihood-based enterprises.
Notably, Deep Mushroom Farm has emerged as a successful model for self-reliance and income generation through livelihood activities.
The CDO stated that by implementing the concept of ‘local for vocal’, the farmers could increase their income manifolds through effective marketing of local products. “The farmers can expand their enterprises through loan facilities under schemes rolled out by both the Centre and the State government. Such enterprises will strengthen the rural economy and create new self-employment opportunities in the rural areas,” he added.
During the inspection, REAP’s project manager, Kapil Upadhyay explained the project’s objectives and available assistance while the farm’s manager Deepika explained the technology, costs and profits of mushroom production. The senior administrative officials present during the inspection hailed the efforts of the farm, calling it an effective model for livelihood enhancement in the district.
