In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Supreme Court lifted its February ban and allowed construction activities in six reserve forest areas under Corbett and Rajaji tiger reserves albeit with condition. With the stay lifted conditionally, the stage is set for the resumption of 45 stalled construction works, according to the senior State forest department officers. However, the top court of the country laced the order with condition that the construction works initiated by the forest department and meant for the protection of the forests and the wild life would be allowed to resume. Notably, the apex court had ordered stoppage of all construction works, after the Central Empowered Committee had investigated the alleged illegal tree-felling and construction activities being carried out in the name of Pakhro Tiger Safari under the Corbett Tiger Reserve.
