SCPCR asks WECD for Rs one crore to operate child data bank
Underlining the importance of setting up of child data bank to restrict child begging and child labour issues in Uttarakhand, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) asked the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department to provide Rs one crore for the formation and operation of the child data bank. The data bank will be crucial to track children uptill 12 years of age.
Usha Negi, the SCPCR chief said that a former member of the child commission complaint to the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat two months back that there are several children in the State who still beg on the roads and are forced into child labour where they get exploited and bound to lead an insecure life. He has suggested setting up a child data bank for the children since their birth until they are 12 years old so that they can be tracked regularly by the authorities and made them aware of their rights too, informed Negi. The complainant suggested that a number should be allotted to a child on his or her birth which can be his or her Aadhar number too and subsequently, the number can be linked to every department concerned with child safety and development to properly monitor them, informed Negi. She informed that child commission recently received a letter from the WECD department and was asked to consider this complaint and take appropriate action for the betterment of children.
After analysing the complaint and suggestions in the letter sent to the CM by the complainant, Negi has stated to the secretary of WECD to provide funding of Rs one crore for setting up of the child data bank and to conduct a large scale survey to collect the details of children across the State.
