The Bhimgoda Barrage received the highest discharge of 1.47 lakh cusecs, a figure recorded as its highest water flow so far this monsoon season. Informing this, the executive engineer, Irrigation department, Uttar Pradesh, Vikas Tyagi said that the barrage gates were opened to drain excess water to control water pressure in view of the continuous rise in the water level of Ganga. “We are monitoring the situation 24 hours a day,” he added.
The district administration has appealed to the people living on the Ganga banks and in low-lying areas to remain vigilant. Devotees and locals have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel to the riverbanks and to follow safety guidelines, given the strong flow of the Ganga.
Tyagi further stated that frequent fluctuations in water flow are expected during the monsoon season. “Keeping this in view, we are making arrangements for water drainage as needed,” he added.
