Following an alleged rape of a minor resulting in the premature birth and death of her baby, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has summoned the police and medical officials concerned to present the investigation report involving the case. This direction was issued during an inspection conducted by SCPCR officials at the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhayaya district hospital (Coronation) on Wednesday.
Informing this on Wednesday, a member of the SCPCR, Vinod Kaparwan said that they had failed to meet the victim. “By the time we reached the hospital, she had already been discharged. During the inspection, we noted with concern that the DNA test of the child had not been conducted nearly a week after the incident, raising suspicion. Besides, we were informed that upon the request of the victim’s family, the child was transported to Tehri under police supervision to facilitate the completion of the legal procedures,” he said.
He further said that the Commission had conveyed its deep anguish over the delay in taking appropriate actions. “The investigating officer must explain this delay. Besides, we demand the law enforcers to take the required measures under POCSO to ensure justice for the survivor. She must be medically taken care of as she keeps suffering from health issues,” he added.
Further, the commission took strong exception to the medical superintendent of the district hospital, Dr V S Chauhan having allowed the survivor‘s discharge before she fully recovered. “This is what prompted the commission to summon officials concerned with the medical as well as police investigation reports about this case,” Kaparwan added.
SCPCR asks CS to revise children safety policy in U’khand
DEHRADUN :Taking note of the spurt in crimes against children, the chairperson of the State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Geeta Khanna asked the chief secretary Radha Raturi to hold a meeting with the departments concerned to update the policies to ensure fool-proof safety of children in the State. She expressed her concern and anguish over the recent case of alleged rape of a minor resulting in the premature birth and death of her baby. She added that such crimes happening frequently expose the vulnerability of the minors. “So we have written to the chief secretary urging her to revise safety policies for children to make the State a safer place for them,” she said.
