SDRF saves 56 Kanwadias from drowning in a day, 128 saved so far

Personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Uttarakhand Police,  once again proved their mettle by saving the lives of 56 Kanwadias from drowning at Kangra Ghat during the ongoing Kanwad Mela on Tuesday. Out of these 56 saved Kanwadias, 40 Kanwadias were from Haryana, six from Rajasthan, four from Punjab, three from Delhi, two from Uttar Pradesh and one from Uttarakhand. The rescue teams of SDRF have saved over 128 Kanwadias drowning in the Ganga in Haridwar and Rishikesh since the commencement of Kanwad Yatra on July 22. The SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra said that the SDRF’s vigilance and prompt response have been crucial throughout the Kanwad Mela, with a total of 128 kanwariyas rescued since last week. Their dedication and duty-bound approach have garnered appreciation from the rescued pilgrims, local residents and their families too. He said that the influx of pilgrims often leads to dangerous situations, especially near the riverbanks during Kanwad Mela. The timely efforts of the SDRF team have ensured the safety of numerous lives, highlighting their commitment to public service in safeguarding lives during such large-scale events. Their continued vigilance and swift actions are commendable, setting a benchmark for emergency response and rescue operations. They will be soon felicitated for their hard work and bravery, Mishra said.
