Selja’s visit likely to be eventful with factionalism at peak in Congress

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

With factionalism in the Congress party at its peak, the upcoming visit of the in-charge of Uttarakhand Congress Kumari Selja to the State is likely to be eventful.

Selja is commencing her five day tour of the State from Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district on April 8. During her visit, she will hold meetings with the party leaders and workers and discuss strategy for the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2027. However, the recent events in the State Congress which resulted in the decision of former chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to take a break of 15 days from the politics are likely to influence the visit of Selja.

If the tussle in the State unit of the party remains unresolved till the arrival of the State in- charge, the supporters of the former CM Rawat are likely to boycott the meetings of Selja in the State. Harish Rawat is said to be sulking currently because the party high command ignored his plea to admit Block Pramukh of Ramnagar, Sanjay Negi into the party along with six other leaders in New Delhi recently. Negi’s candidature was opposed by a section of the party opposed to Harish Rawat. Making the entry of Negi into the party as an issue of personal prestige, Rawat decided to take a break from politics. Interestingly during his self-proclaimed earned leave period, the former CM is very active socially and his followers have launched a series of assaults on the detractors of their leaders within the party. Eyebrows were raised in the political circles on Friday when cabinet minister Khajan Dass paid a courtesy visit to the residence of Harish Rawat.

Apart from resolving the tangle created by the break from the politics decision of Harish Rawat, the in-charge of Uttarakhand Congress is likely to discuss the long pending issue of constitution of new Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC). It is learnt that while the Congress high command is planning to constitute a small PCC, the president of Uttarakhand Congress Ganesh Godiyal wants to accommodate the representatives of all the factions and senior leaders in the PCC due to which will result in a jumbo sized PCC.
