Financial health of cooperative banks of Uttarakhand improving: Minister

 The cooperative banks of Uttarakhand have earned a profit of Rs 269.72 crore in the financial year 2025-26.  The Cooperation minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the financial performance of the cooperative banks of the State is continuously improving due to better management and transparent policies of the State government. He informed that in the FY 2025-26, a total of 290 branches of the District Cooperative Banks of ten districts and State Cooperative Banks earned profit. In the FY 2024-25, the number of profit earning branches were 280. 

He informed that in 2025-26, the banks earned a pure profit of Rs 150.82 crore which is Rs 28.96 crore more than the last year. The minister claimed that special focus is being made on bringing transparency in the banking system, reforms in distribution of loans and strengthening digital banking. He said that time bound recovery of Non-Performing Assets (NPA) is helping in better financial health of the banks and gradual reduction in the NPAs of the banks.

Rawat said that last year, the gross NPA of the cooperative banks was Rs 690.11 crore which in 2025-26 reduced to Rs 650.23 crore. There has been a reduction of 6.22 per cent in gross NPA of the banks in one year, he added. 

The minister said that the better performance of the cooperative banks of the State is a positive signal for the economy of the State. He said that the general public is getting benefited by the transparency in the banking system and stringent approach in recovery of NPAs. The minister added that the emphasis will be on digital banking, adoption of modern technology and financial management to strengthen the cooperative banks and cooperative movement in the State. It will help in making the cooperative banks as the backbone of the rural economy.
