The central leadership of the Congress party has summoned top leaders of Uttarakhand Congress to New Delhi. The leadership is likely to discuss key issues related to functioning of the party in the State with the senior leaders of the State in the meeting. The Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Mathuradutt Joshi told The Pioneer that the in-charge of the Uttarakhand Congress Kumari Selja will hold a meeting with the senior leaders of State in New Delhi on Thursday. He said that the party leaders are likely to discuss the upcoming Assembly by-election of Kedarnath and elections of the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) in the meeting.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, the leader of opposition (LoP) in State assembly Yashpal Arya, former chief minister Harish Rawat, former PCC presidents Pritam Singh and Ganesh Godiyal, deputy leader in State assembly Bhuwan Kapdi, former speaker of State Assembly Govind Singh Kunjwal, former cabinet ministers Mantri Prasad Naithani, Surendra Singh Negi and Harak Singh Rawat have been convened by the State in -charge to Delhi. All the five candidates of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 will also attend the meeting.
The meeting assumes significance since it is being held after the recent visit of senior party leader KL Punia to Uttarakhand. He was sent by the party leadership on a fact finding mission to the State. During his visit Punia held deliberations with the senior leaders, office bearers of the party and frontal organisations and dwelled on the causes of the loss of the party candidates in all the five LS seats of Uttarakhand. Speculations are rife that the central leadership of the party can take some drastic steps and revamp the party organisation in Uttarakhand. Refuting the speculations of change of guard in the State Congress, the vice president Joshi said that the State in- charge had not met the senior leaders of the State since the party secured victory in the recent assembly by-elections of Manglaur and Badrinath. So she has convened the meeting in Delhi, he added.
