The Labour department rescued a total of seven children engaged in child labour and beggary on Tuesday. Stating this, the department officials said that following the directives of the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal, a campaign was launched to combat child beggary and labour. Under this drive, on Tuesday, they rescued seven children out of which two children from beggary and five child labourers from exploitative employment, they added.
The officials further stated that cases have been registered against the employers who were utilising child labour at Vasant Vihar and Nehru Colony police stations. For the rehabilitation of these children, they were presented to the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and subsequently sent to a shelter home.
It will be recalled that earlier, assistant labour commissioner Deepak Kumar, in alignment with the DM had initiated a targeted campaign aimed at identifying children involved in labour. This campaign is consistently conducted on weekends, specifically Fridays and Saturdays. As of December 12, the department had rescued an average of about 14 child labourers during these special initiatives. Additionally, in September, six child labourers were rescued, followed by four in October as part of this campaign. Additionally, Kumar emphasised that the department had rescued three to four more child labourers recently.
