Shashwat Kohli: A trailblazer in US cricket, inspiring aspirants

In a world where cricket remains largely dominated by traditional powerhouses like India, England and Australia, Shashwat Kohli is proving that opportunities exist far beyond these nations. The 27-year-old cricketer has carved a niche for himself in the United States, establishing a reputation as both a formidable player and an exceptional coach.
A right-handed batsman and leg break bowler, Kohli is currently a key player for the Seattle Thunderbolts, a Minor League Cricket (MiLC) team. However, his influence in the US cricketing landscape goes far beyond his on-field exploits. As one of the few ICC Level 1 accredited coaches in the country, he is also involved in shaping the future of young cricketers. His elite coaching credentials, which include the globally rare Tutor Level 1 certification, place him among the most sought-after cricket mentors in the region.
Kohli’s journey to the US wasn’t merely a stroke of luck—it was a calculated decision fueled by ambition and a desire to maximise his potential. Unlike many Indian players who transition to international leagues in their 30s, Shashwat made the bold move at just 25, well before his prime. Turning down a wildcard entry in a US minor league tournament, which would have jeopardised his eligibility under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he instead seized a direct employment offer from the Seattle Thunderbolts. This strategic choice ensured his longevity in the sport while allowing him to refine his skills on a global stage.
Balancing playing and coaching commitments, he has also contributed to developing a cricket academy and cricket grounds in McKinney, Texas. His dedication is not just about personal growth but about fostering a cricketing culture in a country where the sport is still emerging.
