The in-charge of the Shivpuri police outpost under Muni Ki Reti police station of Rishikesh, Vinod Sharma was killed in a road accident in the Shivpuri stretch of Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
As per police sources, a vehicle carrying police personnel lost control and crashed into the Ganga. The accident occurred while Vinod was returning to Shivpuri outpost from Muni Ki Reti police station after completing his night duty.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. After considerable efforts, the police team retrieved the body from the river via a raft. It is yet to be confirmed whether there was any other person in the car during the accident.
The senior superintendent of police, Tehri, Shweta Choubey condoled the death, calling him a dedicated police officer.
