CS for enhancing fire safety norms in govt, non-govt bldgs

The chief secretary Anand Bardhan directed all concerned to strengthen fire safety standards in government and non-government buildings across the State. He also ordered all secretaries and district magistrates to conduct mandatory on-site surveys, especially of high-rise buildings, highly congested areas, premises with unsafe escape routes and buildings located in narrow roads.
“The primary objective of this campaign is to eliminate the risk of any potential fire accidents. Safety audits and strict compliance with regulations are mandatory in all departments,” he declared.This aside, the CS assigned all government secretaries the responsibility of conducting a comprehensive safety audit of their respective departments and related sectors. He clarified that after the survey, all necessary fire safety standards should be ensured. “All officials concerned have been strictly instructed to follow the rules and not to compromise on safety standards,” he noted.
