Silk weavers to go on study tour to 4 states

Uttarakhand Cooperative Silk Federation will send silk weavers of the State on study tours to four States to help them learn modern techniques and new designs. Announcing this during the inauguration of the fourth Doon Silk retail outlet on Rajpur Road here on Wednesday, the State Cooperation minister, Dhan Singh Rawat said that the study tours would improve the skills and working capacity of silk weavers. He further said that by visiting other States, the weavers would understand advanced silk production methods and apply them in Uttarakhand. He also asked the Silk Federation to plan the programme properly so that the weavers get maximum benefit. 

The managing director of the federation, Anand Shukla said that the federation aims to make 10,000 women financially strong as Lakhpati Didis. He said that six more Doon Silk outlets would be opened in other cities soon and a business target of Rs 10 crore has been set for the coming year. 

During the programme, the minister interacted with the silk weavers and asked them about the working of the federation. Cheques were distributed to 25 silkworm growers while certificates were given to beneficiaries from the weaving sector under the Silk Samagra Project.
