In latest news from Uttarakhand, rescue hope involving the workers remaining stranded inside the Silkyara tunnel since November 12 has brightened up on the 17th day of the multi-pronged and multi-agency operation as the rescuers claimed that the work of digging the escape channel through the rubbles to reach the trapped workers is nearing completion. It is learnt that the workers- known as rat hole miners for their unparalleled skill in digging through debris manually- who reached the tunnel site from Delhi under the direction of the army engineering core, are now left with the work of pushing the pipe 2.5 meters more into the debris to reach the trapped workers. Importantly, what the high-powered American auger machine failed despite being operation for several days, a few skilled labourers from Delhi are on the brink of success within less than 24 hours.
