In order to prevent cases of sleep apnea, a sleep lab will soon be operational at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital soon. The medical superintendent, Dr Anurag Aggarwal, informed that the hospital administration had been planning to establish the sleep lab for a long time, but due to the model code of conduct, the process took longer than expected. Recently, a sleep lab has been set up at the hospital premises. However, the sleep lab has not started functioning yet as only the necessary equipment has been set up, but there is no technician or specialised doctor to operate the machine. He further added that to address this, a proposal for hiring specialised doctors has been sent to the concerned authorities. It is expected that the appointment of a specialised doctor for the sleep lab will lead to the lab starting its operation, he added.
