Conductors of Smart City electric buses in Dehradun have been staging a demonstration and boycotting duties over delayed salaries and other demands since Monday which continued on Wednesday. This has halted the operation of electric buses in the city. The protestors stated that the work boycott will continue till the authorities concerned act on their demands.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of the protesting conductors said that the protest is being held at their designated site in Transport Nagar.
The conductor informed that their salaries have not been revised for four years and they also face issues in receiving pay on time, which often gets delayed. Moreover, a few days ago, authorities suspended one bus conductor despite his apology for his mistake. In view of these issues, they resorted to protest and work boycott. The agitation will continue till concerns raised by them regarding salary hike, timely disbursal and other issues are addressed. Around 30 electric buses operate in Dehradun and 75 conductors of the electric buses boycotted work, the conductor informed.
The boycott and protest of conductors of electric buses operating in the city has also caused concern among locals who depend on these buses for commuting within the city. This correspondent attempted to contact the official concerned for his view on this issue but he did not answer the phone.
